The social media post falsely claimed that Mr Shatter had met Epstein. The false claims appeared online following the release of millions of Epstein files by the US Department of Justice. Alan Shatter is a former Dublin Fine Gael TD and served as justice minister. Gary Gannon acknowledged the mistake and apologised to Mr Shatter for the incorrect suggestion.
