Sensory refuge van for the neurodivergent coming to Times Square for New Year's Eve
Briefly

Regina Fojas, the Times Square Alliance chief of staff, stated, '[We're] creating the best environment for somebody with sensory needs to experience Times Square's New Year's Eve, because it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and why shouldn't someone who has sensory needs be able to experience it?' This initiative underscores the importance of inclusivity in large public events, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their sensory sensitivities, can participate in the celebration.
The SAV will be outfitted with calming tools such as noise-canceling headphones, sensory bags with fidget spinners, and activity panels to buffer the chaotic environment of Times Square's New Year's Eve celebration. Fojas emphasized the significance of this service, particularly for families who have long felt their members could not enjoy such public festivities.
The establishment of the Sensory Activation Vehicle at Times Square is a response to years of requests from families in the neurodiverse community, highlighting the evolving understanding of accessibility needs at public events. The SAV represents a significant step forward in making the New Year's celebration more inclusive.
