Schools face further disruption as Storm Herminia hampers ESB repair efforts
Briefly

Following Storm Éowyn, around 246,000 households experienced power outages, a dramatic drop from a staggering 768,000. While the ESB anticipates restoring power to most homes by Friday, about 100,000 rural customers may endure another week without electricity. Schools closed due to the storm are being assessed for safety; many may reopen if conditions permit. The National Emergency Co-ordination Group is establishing Emergency Response Hubs for communities facing dire situations, providing essentials like food and water during the ongoing recovery efforts.
The ESB confirmed that 246,000 households remained without power after Storm Éowyn, down from a peak of 768,000 last Friday.
Around a dozen schools in the north-west and border counties suffered varying degrees of storm damage last Friday, the majority in rural areas.
Emergency Response Hubs would be established in the hardest-hit areas to assist those in dire need with essentials like hot food and water.
Most schools are expected to be able to reopen on Monday, provided it is safe and power has been fully restored.
