Schools face further disruption as Storm Herminia hampers ESB efforts to reconnect 228,000 homes and businesses
Briefly

Storm Éowyn caused widespread disruption, leaving 228,000 households without power and significant flooding affecting water supplies. While the majority of households are expected to have their power restored by Friday, around 100,000 customers in rural areas may face a longer wait of up to another week. Schools that closed due to the storm are being assessed for reopening based on safety assessments, and the National Emergency Co-ordination Group is establishing Emergency Response Hubs to provide support to those in need of basic services.
ESB confirmed that 228,000 households remained without power this afternoon after the storm wreaked havoc across the country. The vast majority will have power restored by Friday.
Emergency Response Hubs would be set up in the worst-affected areas to help people with basic needs such as water, hot food, phone-charging, broadband access, shower and clothes-washing facilities.
