San Jose has launched a $1 million partnership with the nonprofit Upwards to improve child care availability. The Boost program aims to assist 133 daycare centers for low-income families, offering business coaching and digitization of operations, which will help them expand their capacity. Currently, only 20% of children aged 0-2 have access to childcare, and the program aims to increase that number. Early results show many providers are already expanding their services. Upwards may also support providers with subsidies for operational costs and salary assistance.
"In San Jose, only 20% of children aged 0 to 2 whose parents are working have access to child care," Jeff Scott, city housing spokesperson, told San José Spotlight.
"Through the program, we really want to teach our caretakers how to become self-sufficient in running their operations," Ahumana told San José Spotlight.
