A leading accountants body said it was "baffling" that the Revenue Commissioners is applying benefit-in-kind tax charge when employers provide sandwiches, biscuits or even coffee for staff.
Isme, which represents small- and medium-sized firms, called for what it insisted was a new reporting requirement to be scrapped.
Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI), the umbrella body for chartered accountants, said businesses were enraged at Revenue's tougher stance on the issue.
Ms Clohisey said strictly applying this tax charge essentially doubles the cost of administration for these employers.
