"I always had that desire to pursue a career that would allow me to do good for other people while at the same time protecting the planet," Cruz says, reflecting on her motivation for sustainability driven from her childhood experiences in Colombia.
Since Pilar Cruz became Cargill's first Latina executive team member, the company has pioneered innovations such as zero-emission electrified pusher boats and barges, restored 9 billion liters of water, and promoted regenerative agriculture practices globally.
Cruz emphasizes that sustainability is not solely her responsibility. She states, 'Sustainability is everybody's role,' and actively works with other businesses to foster decarbonization in supply chains.
Cruz challenges the commonly held belief that big business and environmental protection cannot coexist, asserting, 'I think it's possible to do good by doing great.'
