General Motors is recalling over 132,000 heavy-duty pickups in the U.S. due to tailgate release switches that can short circuit, increasingly posing safety risks.
After discovering 237 field reports of unintended tailgate openings, GM is expanding a previous recall, urging vehicle owners to ensure tailgates are securely latched.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration outlines that some 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks are affected, specifically those with manual gates and power locks.
The company will replace the electronic touch pad switch assemblies with more water-resistant versions, aiming to prevent the dangerous issue from occurring in the future.
