NYC braces for 6 inches of snow, brutal cold as polar vortex blasts region. Here's when it will start
Briefly

New York City will be under a winter weather advisory from 1 p.m. into Monday morning as temperatures drop below freezing and up to half a foot of snow falls over the tri-state area.
Once the snow starts to come in, the temperature will essentially drop like a rock, leading to a wintery mix before the heavy snow hits, according to forecaster Marissa Lautenbacher.
The heaviest snow will start mid-to-late afternoon, probably around dinner time, and will stop in the overnight hours, with frigid temperatures as low as 17 degrees.
I would advise people to do anything early today and then stay home for the rest of the afternoon, as bitter wind chills and heavy snow are expected.
