A bullet struck the body of a Southwest Airlines airplane preparing for departure from Dallas Love Field Airport, canceling the flight and raising safety concerns.
The Boeing 737-800 was 'struck by gunfire near the cockpit' at approximately 8:30 p.m. as it was taxiing for a flight to Indianapolis.
Following the gunfire incident, the plane returned to the gate where passengers exited safely, highlighting effective emergency procedures by the airline.
Dallas police responded quickly to the incident, and although one runway was closed temporarily, the airport operations were minimally impacted Friday night.
