Chef Regi Mathew, known for his participation in a high-profile Indian wedding last year, is launching Chatti in Midtown Manhattan. The restaurant draws inspiration from Kerala's toddy cafes, which embody the communal spirit of Kerala dining. Chatti’s menu features dishes meant for sharing, such as beef fry and prawn pouches, along with seafood and curries. Mathew, who spent years traveling through South India to craft his vision, aims to elevate the casual dining experience typical of traditional toddy shops within a more upscale New York setting.
"That is a place that showcases the true taste of Kerala's vibrant food. It's all about friendly gatherings [and the] communal spirit of Kerala dining."
"The restaurant's cooking team comes straight from the subcontinent, too."
