A severe late-night fire in Brooklyn destroyed three buildings, affecting numerous families and local businesses. Firefighters responded at 10:30 p.m., with flames visible from the third story. The blaze, which originated in a mixed-use building above a subway entrance, quickly spread, prompting a 4-alarm response involving 200 personnel. All three affected buildings were deemed unsafe, leading to evacuation orders. Among the losses is City Chemist, a long-standing local pharmacy, deeply missed by residents, illustrating the fire's impact on the community. Investigations into the fire's cause are ongoing.
"It's just horrendous, to see the families displaced to see this pharmacy on the corner that has been here for decades. It's a neighborhood institution."
"At a 4th alarm we use about 200 firefighters and EMS personnel with over 50 pieces of fire apparatus here," the chief explained.
