Following community resistance, McDonald's abandoned its plans for a takeaway-only restaurant in Croydon, generating concerns about local character and environment. Nando's has since proposed a new application for the same site, which is considered a more favorable option by local officials. Liberal Democrat Councillor Claire Bonham emphasized the importance of community feedback on Nando's plan and recognized it as a significant improvement over McDonald's earlier proposal, which faced criticism related to traffic and litter issues.
I am keen to hear from residents as to their views on this planning application. The application from Nando's is clearly an improvement on previous plans for a takeaway-only McDonald's restaurant, which was rightly withdrawn.
Increasing footfall in the Triangle is important to support all businesses, and so I will be studying these proposals very closely.
