Local artists and activists are seeking to honor Inez Jackson, co-founder of the AACSA and a significant figure in civil rights, by funding a mural in San Jose. Despite her historical significance, her legacy lacks public commemoration. The mural aims to enhance AACSA's visibility and celebrate Jackson's contributions, which include fighting for racial equality and becoming San Jose's first Black postal clerk. Fundraising efforts are underway to reach a $15,000 goal to cover project costs, with hopes to attract more visitors to AACSA and highlight Jackson's legacy.
Despite Inez Jackson being a nationally and locally renowned leader, there is little to commemorate her legacy in the public, especially in San Jose.
We hope that with the installation of a community mural, we are able to beautify the AACSA's building as well as memorialize the namesake of the Inez Jackson Library.
