The MTA is moving closer to creating a direct transit link between Brooklyn and Queens with its proposed Interborough Express (IBX) project, a 14-mile light rail line.
Advocacy groups remain cautious about the IBX project. Danny Pearlstein stated that while the project is positive, greater investment in New York's public transit infrastructure is necessary.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has yet to fund the IBX project or the vital upgrades that were indefinitely halted in June, highlighting the need for reliable public transit.
The MTA's timeline includes two years for design and environmental review, with a $15 million federal RAISE grant to support initial stages of the IBX project.
