"He’s been Batman-obsessed since he was a little boy," Via tells TODAY.com. Before the Shoemakers knew they were having a girl, Carson asked his wife what she thought of the name Alfred. Immediately no. Bruce? Another no. All of his suggestions were so far out there," Via says. Carson’s persistent Batman-themed name proposals were met with humorous rejection from Via, highlighting the playful yet serious considerations parents face when naming their children.
"Nora means light of God, which I think is so beautiful," Via says. For Carson, however, their daughter's name has another meaning. In a TikTok video filmed over Thanksgiving, Via is with Carson's family watching an episode of the '90s cartoon 'Batman: The Animated Series.' When a character named Nora Fries appears on the screen, Via's jaw practically drops into her lap and she begins to laugh. Her reaction was captured by Carson's mom, showcasing the unexpected crossover of inspirations for their daughter's name.
"As soon as I heard Nora, I was like, 'OK. This makes sense,'" she says. 'That episode has been Carson's favorite since he was 10.' In the series, Nora Fries is married to supervillain Mr. Freeze. According to Via, Mr. Freeze is Carson's Disney+ profile character. 'Mr. Freeze calls Nora his little snowflake and that's what Carson calls our Nora,' Via says. This connection adds a personal touch to the name choice and reflects the influence of pop culture on contemporary parenting.
"I love my daughter's name, I love my dorky husband (who accidentally proposed on national batman day too btw), but all future baby names will have a thorough background check..." Via humorously concludes, suggesting that the couple's experience may lead parents to consider the full implications and stories behind potential names in the future.
