Marvila House / Atelier Jose Andrade Rocha
Briefly

During the pandemic, architects designed homes that emphasize social gatherings and connection to nature. The unchanged street façade provides a sense of continuity, while the newly designed rear façade enhances the building’s narrative. The project fosters a strong link to the garden, celebrating essential elements like sunlight, water, and leisure. This design reflects a need for communal joy, prioritizing shared experiences and a more profound relationship with the surrounding environment as a response to the isolation felt during the pandemic.
Developed during the pandemic, these houses reflect a desire for gatherings and joy, transcending traditional functions to foster a more meaningful connection with the outdoors.
The unchanged street façade holds clues to the interventions made, while the rear façade showcases an extension that harmonizes with the existing structure.
The extension emphasizes a renewed connection with the garden, celebrating essential elements—sun, earth, and leisure—that became vital during the isolation of the pandemic.
By adding layers to the building's history, the design seeks to create spaces that enhance the communal experience and embrace nature in daily life.
