Firefighters received a call about the fire at a two-story home at 6 Locust St. in South Middleborough, at 9:16 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found intense fire and immediately attacked the blaze from the outside, according to officials.
The sole occupant of the home, a 67-year-old male, was rescued near a side entrance, said Middleborough Fire Department Chief Owen Thompson in a statement Tuesday. The man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by ambulance.
Middleborough firefighters were supported by crews from surrounding towns including Bridgewater, Lakeville, Wareham, and Carver, whose firefighters also provided station coverage.
At this time, officials do not believe the fire was set intentionally, but the cause remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
