Brian McShea and Stephanie Raynor of Altadena lost their home to a wildfire just a year after moving in. After evacuating, they returned to find their belongings destroyed, including a precious engagement ring McShea had planned to give Raynor. Despite the devastation, McShea searched through the rubble, determined to find the ring. Eventually, against all odds, he discovered the ring in the wreckage and proposed to Raynor, capturing a moment of hope amidst their tragedy. They aim to rebuild their lives in Altadena, where they lost so much but also found a way to stay connected through love.
I was like, 'We're going to look over here where my desk is.' I did not tell her why. I don't know what [she] thought we were looking for because it was pretty obvious that a lot of my stuff was gone.
As soon as we walked up, it really hit us.
I was thinking, 'Well, maybe the stone can survive and maybe we'll find the little stone.' I thought the ring was going to completely disintegrate.
I did not tell her why [we were searching]; I really didn't have a lot of hope, but you just brush away some rubble and there's a little ring.
