Loneliness spreads in Germany DW 12/11/2024
Briefly

According to the survey, 68% of Germans aged 18 to 39 report feeling lonely at times, highlighting a significant mental health concern among younger populations. Dr. Janosch Schobin from the Loneliness Network emphasized that this age group often faces major life changes such as moving for jobs or leaving home, which heighten feelings of isolation. The impact of loneliness can be profound, as 36% of younger adults feel it weighs heavily on them.
The survey revealed that single individuals are three times more likely to experience loneliness compared to those in partnerships. Interestingly, while men and women display similar levels of loneliness, the support of a partner can significantly alleviate the burden. 33% of singles report feeling very or quite strongly affected by loneliness, whereas the percentage drops to 22% for those with a steady partner. This suggests that relationship status plays a critical role in emotional well-being.
