The fire engulfed a three-story house under construction, severely affecting two nearby homes within 20 feet that faced serious exposure issues, according to Assistant Fire Chief Howie Tighe.
Fire departments from Newport, Bristol, and Tiverton responded after a second alarm, allowing officials to quickly control the fire with water through master streams and an aerial ladder.
Despite the extensive damage, the two adjacent homes remain habitable, and the Portsmouth Fire Department confirmed there were no injuries during the incident.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, as companies remained on the scene all night to manage hotspots that persisted after the flames were extinguished.
