The incident, which saw a gunman open fire nearby, prompted an immediate shelter-in-place order in Lewiston. Karim described her experience during that disturbing night, noting, "I was terrified. We often serve a vulnerable population here; many of our customers rely on us for essentials within walking distance. I managed to lock the store, not fully comprehending the chaos unfolding just blocks away. It felt surreal to be hiding in my office, hearing the sirens while praying for safety. In this moment, I realized how vital our role is in this community."
