"It was like a terror attack. A mob chased the bus and caught hold of the driver and manhandled him until the police arrived," Kapil Singh, an eyewitness told The Times of India.
The crash happened at a busy marketplace near a railway station and resulted in at least six deaths, with the toll likely to increase as some of the injured were in serious condition.
Rescue teams were deployed immediately as large crowds of bystanders gathered at the site of the crash, illustrating the chaotic and dangerous situation following the incident.
The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) reported that the driver 'lost control of the bus', leading to this tragic accident amidst already high fatality rates from road accidents in India.
