Rep. Jared Golden (D-MN) has criticized the Democratic Party for its reactive approach to President Trump's actions during his early presidency. Representing a vulnerable district, he emphasized the importance of selective opposition rather than opposing every move, which he believes undermines credibility. Golden articulated that while some Trump actions may have constitutional implications, categorizing them as authoritarian without careful consideration can backfire. He suggests a more measured response is essential for long-term effectiveness and credibility in the political discourse.
I don't think that it's been very effective, the Dem response, so far, he said. In fact, I'm frustrated by it. If you make everything Defcon 5, then eventually nothing is Defcon 5, you know what I mean?
Democrats must stop reacting to every move Trump makes. I hate it when people ask me, like, How does this affect you as a battleground member?' ... if all I did here was make decisions based upon that badge of honor, I would not be able to be effective.
