Google has announced it will scrap some diversity hiring targets, aligning with a trend seen in other U.S. companies reducing their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. This decision follows an executive order from President Donald Trump directing government contractors to reevaluate their DEI programs. In their annual SEC report, Google altered its longstanding commitment to diversity in hiring and workforce representation, part of a broader reassessment of initiatives spurred by corporate necessities and legal changes. Google remains focused on creating an inclusive workplace, but operational changes are underway to accommodate new guidelines.
We’re committed to creating a workplace where all our employees can succeed and have equal opportunities, and over the last year we've been reviewing our programs.
Like several other major tech companies, Google sells some of its technology and services to the federal government, which influences their approach to DEI.
