The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an inquiry into Google's dominant position in online search, considering its impact on competition and consumer choice.
The CMA aims to ensure tech giants like Google deliver beneficial outcomes for users while maintaining a level playing field for competitors in the digital marketplace.
"Millions of people and businesses across the UK rely on Google's search and advertising services," said CMA's chief executive Sarah Cardell, highlighting the need for fair competition.
Potential changes from the CMA could include sharing collected data with other businesses, or enhancing publisher oversight on data usage related to Google's AI features.
