I was never called to duty. I was a boy, my sisters were girls. I could try to turn this into a moment of Injustice, yet another example of Young Victoria having a girlhood she didn't know she wanted preemptively withheld from her; in reality, I was extremely fucking lazy. If I had been invited to participate, I would've said 'no' and retreated to my room to play Madden.
Even as I took my first wobbly steps towards culinary competence, I was far, far too intimidated to consider baking. This was a language I hadn't been taught to speak, and every time I tried to learn it, a wall of websites stared back at me and said: Baking is science, and you are not a scientist.
