FCC Stops Considering Bulk Billing Proposal, Citing Potential for Cost Increases
Briefly

The FCC has decided against an earlier proposal to ban bulk billing arrangements in multi-tenant housing. New Chair Brendan Carr argued that these billing practices help keep internet costs lower for families. Originally proposed by former Chair Jessica Rosenworcel in March 2024, the plan aimed to give tenants the choice to opt-out of services they did not want. However, the current FCC posits that eliminating such arrangements would have intensified costs, predicting a possible 50% price hike in internet service for renters.
This regulatory overreach from Washington would have hit families right in their pocketbooks at a time when they were already hurting from the last Administration's inflationary policies.
The FCC’s announcement theorized that had the proposed rule passed, it could have raised the price of internet service for Americans living in apartments by as much as 50 percent.
