Luisa Neubauer, a prominent climate activist from Germany, warns that extreme weather events are not translating into political will for climate action. After observing the political landscape in the U.S. and witnessing how disasters like Hurricane Helene were leveraged by climate deniers, she expresses concern over the rise of conspiracy theories related to climate change. Neubauer highlights a significant shift in the climate struggle where the emphasis has transitioned from green solutions to the essential fight for democratic truths, stressing the need for a shared reality to advance climate initiatives.
It's no longer green technologies that are the issue, but the fight for democracy and truth. If there's no shared reality in which we operate, it will be impossible to move forward with the climate transition.
I bought into that and I'm glad about it because I was naively believing there was a democratic responsibility that would live through coalition changes and climate changes.
