OpenOrigins, a London-based start-up, combats fake media using blockchain technology to verify the authenticity of photos and videos, raising $4.5 million in seed investment.
OpenOrigins enables newsrooms to verify digital media authenticity in real-time, with software that can be installed on cameras to establish human content origin.
CEO Manny Ahmed highlighted the shift from deep fake detection to proving content's authenticity, stating, 'What we try to do is not prove whether something is fake, but rather prove what is real.'
Ahmed's realization that AI tools could improve deep fake generation led to his pivot towards developing an infrastructure focusing on the verification of human-made content.
