Disney agrees to $233 million wage theft settlement for California's theme park employees
Briefly

Walt Disney Co. has agreed to settle a wage theft lawsuit for $233 million, marking the largest settlement of its kind in California history for theme park employees.
The settlement includes $179.6 million for back pay and retirement contributions, $17.5 million in penalties to the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, and $35 million for attorney fees.
Disney had claimed it was exempt from Measure L, a living wage initiative that mandated businesses receiving city tax subsidies to pay workers a minimum wage that would progressively increase.
As part of the settlement, the wage floor for Disney workers will rise to at least $20.50 an hour starting January, a significant increase from previous wages.
