Cupcakin' shops popping up all over with help from ICA Fund
Briefly

Lila Owens, founder of Cupcakin' Bake Shop, turned her baking hobby into a successful business with support from the ICA Fund, an Oakland nonprofit focused on empowering local entrepreneurs. Started in 2007, Owens' venture is now beloved in the Bay Area, offering a variety of cupcakes and baked goods. She opened her first shop in 2014 near UC Berkeley and expanded significantly in 2018 after acquiring a larger space. The ICA Fund Accelerator program provided crucial business strategies, marketing advice, and operational insights, allowing her to enhance production and grow her brand.
Their advice on strategy, marketing and operations has been invaluable as we continue to grow.
I opened my first brick-and-mortar shop in 2014, strategically located on the south side of the UC Berkeley campus.
The larger location allowed her to increase production and add more retail space.
With rotating flavors, vegan and gluten-free options, Cupcakin's fresh baked treats have become a Bay Area staple.
