Havering Islamic Cultural Centre is in advanced talks to relocate its mosque to the former Brickyard bar in South Street following a compulsory purchase order by Havering Council. This is part of a broader redevelopment plan that promises to deliver 1,070 homes and community amenities. Although the cost for the new site is estimated to exceed the like-for-like value by 4.5 million, the HICC is actively fundraising. The proposal embraces elements such as prayer halls, educational facilities, and community services, including a foodbank and soup kitchen, while also focusing on environmental sustainability.
Our vision is to retain its historic facade, and deliver a new mosque, with improved outreach facilities for all the community.
Havering Council is legally obliged to buy a new site for HICC, with the costs for the South Street development anticipated to exceed by 4.5 million.
The proposed mosque will include prayer halls, educational space, and community areas, as well as facilities for a foodbank and soup kitchen.
The HICC plans to incorporate environmental provisions such as sustainable drainage and biodiverse landscaping into the new development.
