Potential new oil and gas fields in the North Sea could emit as much carbon dioxide as UK households produce over thirty years, according to Uplift's new research.
The projected emissions from these licensed fields, if utilized, could release 1.5 billion tonnes of CO2, significantly impacting global efforts against climate change.
The government has assured no new licenses will be issued, but existing licenses remain active, which continues to challenge the UK’s climate commitments.
Tessa Khan stressed that it is 'alarming' that while household emissions fall through eco-friendly upgrades, the oil and gas industry continues its push for massive emissions.
