Fórsa has announced that workers within the Department of Finance and the Department of Social Protection are required to attend office at least one additional day per week, despite existing hybrid work arrangements. This directive, claimed to be unilateral and breaching prior blended working policies, has led Fórsa to prepare for possible industrial action. The union expressed concerns over a lack of consultation regarding these changes and the consequences they might have for workers, marking the first rollback of remote work by the Government for its employees.
In the union's note of instruction to members, Mr Donnelly said the departments involved had acted unilaterally and failed to honour the terms of a 2022 Blended Working Policy Framework.
These changes, which significantly disadvantage workers, are scheduled to be introduced during the first week in February. No prior consultation or discussion took place with Fórsa on this matter.
