The Hungerford railway bridge repairs will take place over several years, starting now to winter 2028, with scaffolding surrounding the bridge for much of that time.
Due to the bridge's status as a live railway, repairs will occur in small sections, involving scaffolding and painting the bridge while retaining original metalwork.
The refurbishment work will take place in two phases, first on the spans on the south bank between January 2025 to January 2026, and then across the river until 2028.
While the bridge will remain open during repairs, Network Rail has indicated that some weekend closures may occur starting in 2026.
