ChargePoint develops uncuttable charging cables to stop thieves
Briefly

Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, shared, "Even at our headquarter site here in Campbell, in Silicon Valley, we've had our site vandalized twice." This reveals the serious issue of vandalism affecting EV chargers, driven by the lure of valuable copper.
Wilmer explained, "I literally got so frustrated ... I was at home in my own workshop, building prototypes and taking all my nastiest tools to them, to try and cut them, to see what we could come up with." This highlights his hands-on approach to solving the cable vandalism problem.
ChargePoint plans to license its uncuttable cable technology to other vendors, with Wilmer stating, "We've collaborated with...cable vendors to build these cables...we can refer anyone that's interested to those vendors and give them permission to build cables with this technology for someone other than us." This indicates a wider impact beyond just ChargePoint.
ChargePoint developed an alarm system called ChargePoint Protect. Wilmer described, "If an attempt is made to cut a cable...you've got all these flashing lights and loud sirens. It's pretty obnoxious." This emphasizes their commitment to deterring vandalism.
