President Biden is awarding the Medal of Freedom to 19 outstanding individuals, including civil rights icons, political leaders, and cultural figures, recognizing their extraordinary contributions to society.
"These nineteen Americans are great leaders who have made America a better place. They are great leaders because they are good people who have made extraordinary contributions to their country and the world," said the White House.
Among the honorees, civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer and actors like Denzel Washington are celebrated for their impactful roles in advancing social justice and culture.
Additional recipients include globally recognized figures like Jose Andres and Jane Goodall, who have made significant contributions in humanitarian efforts and environmental conservation.
