The SFMTA recently discovered phony QR-code stickers on parking meters in San Francisco, aimed at misleading users into fraudulent payments.
SFMTA spokesperson, Michael Roccaforte, noted that similar scams were found not just at Fisherman's Wharf but also around Beale Street and Embarcadero, indicating a broader issue.
The parking meters in question feature a 'Pay by License Plate' system, which does not utilize QR codes, emphasizing that users need to remain vigilant against scams.
In addition to the QR code scam, a previous incident involved residents receiving fraudulent payment texts purporting to be from FasTrak, showing a pattern of sophisticated scams.
