In the 1980s and early '90s, AIDS victims and gay and bi men were treated as pariahs, facing neglect not only from society but from healthcare professionals and the government.
The LGBTQ+ community isn't homogenous. Our trans siblings need us to step up and help them during these dark days, and ominous years ahead.
Many people credit lesbians for stepping in to help AIDS victims when society and healthcare providers turned their backs, showing solidarity in the face of despair.
I am continually learning and striving to be a better ally to transgender people, recognizing that a majority of Americans are afraid of the unknown.
