Airbnb's Colosseum promotion fails to entertain Roman officials
Briefly

Airbnb is offering a unique experience at the Colosseum, allowing participants to explore underground chambers and engage in friendly 'gladiatorial' fights as part of a promotion for Gladiator II.
Massimiliano Smeriglio, Rome's councilor for culture, expressed concern, stating, 'The news of a gladiatorial show inside the Colosseum leaves us perplexed to say the least. We cannot turn one of the most important monuments in the world into a theme park.'
Airbnb claims its experience is designed to educate visitors about history, stating, 'We are proud to support the Colosseum's ongoing conservation work to find new ways to inspire and educate visitors on the historical significance of this bygone era.'
Despite the appeal of the event, the listing clearly notes, 'The Colosseum is a place of combat, not of rest.' Participants will not be able to stay overnight.
