The Phoenicia Diner, a notable restaurant in New York's Catskills, appears in Apple TV+’s series "Severance" as Pip's Bar & Grille. The series satirizes corporate culture through the concept of 'severance,' where employees like Mark and Helly have their identities split into work and personal selves. The diner was chosen after a visit from executive producer Ben Stiller and has since become integral to the show's setting. Operations director Courtney Malsatzki shared the challenges of maintaining filming secrecy amidst customer inquiries during the diner’s closure.
They spent a few hours there and they were just like mapping scenes.... So I was immediately like, 'I think they're filming here.'
The restaurant had to close down for filming and the exterior and interior changes were obvious. "We had so many emails," she tells Eater.
