A 78-year-old Berkeley man tragically died after being struck by a car while crossing the street at the intersection of Josephine and Rose streets.
The motorist, a 79-year-old woman, remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation as police work to determine the details of the crash.
The police noted that although the exact point of the incident was unclear, there was no marked crosswalk at the intersection where the man was walking.
This incident marks Berkeley's fourth traffic fatality in 2024, raising concerns about pedestrian safety and the need for a renewed focus on Vision Zero.
