Jose Jimenez, a 78-year-old man, was struck by a pickup truck while crossing Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose, ultimately succumbing to his injuries five days later.
The driver of the 2010 Dodge Ram, who struck Jimenez, remained at the scene and was not found to be speeding or driving recklessly during the incident.
Though initial reports indicated non-life-threatening injuries, Jimenez's condition deteriorated, leading to his death five days after the accident.
Traffic fatalities in the 105 Precinct have decreased significantly, down nearly 64% compared to the previous year, although pedestrian deaths still remain a concern.
