Daredevil: Born Again is set to return to streaming with a more gritty and grounded approach than previous installments and even its contemporary, The Penguin. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has emphasized the show's intent to be 'meaner' and less stylized, promising faster, cleaner storytelling that delves into darker themes of vigilante justice and legal drama. Reflecting on the earlier Netflix series, Scardapane acknowledged its high points but aimed to bring a richer narrative experience free from excessive dialogue about heroism.
It's really strange. You work in a vacuum and then something else comes out and you go, 'Oh, wow.' I would say in many ways The Penguin is our direct competition.
We're even more grounded, even less stylized, even more rooted in the here and now... we're a little faster, meaner, cleaner in our storytelling.
The earlier show, at its best, was fantastic... at its worst, it was two characters in a room talking about what a hero is. I felt that had been done.
