What We Do Matters, Especially When Things Are Hardest
Briefly

Sadness and overwhelming emotions can lead to feeling stuck. However, taking small, personally meaningful actions can create a sense of satisfaction and combat feelings of helplessness. Engaging in intentional actions is a key component of effective psychological interventions, contradicting the idea that emotions should dictate action. Instead, by choosing to act, individuals can regulate their emotional state and alleviate feelings of despair, thereby breaking the cycle of inaction and isolation that can exacerbate distress.
Actions seem to follow feeling, but really actions and feeling go together; and by regulating the action, which is under the more direct control of the will, we can indirectly regulate the feeling.
Pulling completely inward can feed isolation, which then further increases despair paralysis.
