Detained man would rather return to Venezuela than remain in harsh conditions at Krome
Briefly

Nerwys Alexandro Reyes Pineda, a 42-year-old Venezuelan man held at the Krome North Service Processing Center, has expressed willingness to return to Venezuela, fearing for his life, rather than endure harsh conditions in U.S. detention. Reyes Pineda previously entered the U.S. seeking asylum but was arrested after his claim was dismissed. His girlfriend reports that he and other detainees lack basic necessities, remaining shackled and without access to showers. The inhumane conditions have led him to contemplate voluntary deportation over prolonged detention.
"They treat us like animals. We're shackled at the feet, hands, and waist," Bormita says Reyes Pineda told her during a recent phone call.
"He told me he would rather be deported than wait in detention for months just to see if he qualifies for a credible fear interview," she said.
