Gardner Minshew has signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs to serve as Patrick Mahomes' backup, taking over from Carson Wentz, who is now a free agent. Previously with the Los Angeles Raiders, Minshew struggled in his starting role, finishing the season with 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns, and 10 interceptions before an injury sidelined him. Despite challenges, he had a standout season in 2023, achieving a career-high of 3,305 passing yards with the Colts, marking his growth over his six-year career in the NFL.
Minshew, 28, was in a tight quarterback competition with Aidan O'Connell during training camp last year before ultimately winning the starting job.
His best season came in 2023, when he passed for a career-high 3,305 yards in 17 games.
