Large whale spotted in shallow waters off the Wexford coast
Briefly

Local residents were relieved when a sperm whale, initially feared to beach, redirected towards the Irish Sea. Damien Burke observed the whale using drones, noting its significant length of about 40 feet. The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group confirmed the sighting, indicating the absence of follow-up reports meant the whale was safe. Pádraig Whooley explained that while sperm whales are not particularly rare, their preference for deep waters makes sightings infrequent. They primarily reside in offshore canyon systems, making them challenging to detect despite their vocal nature.
