The COVID-19 pandemic had a drastic impact on buffet restaurants, many of which struggled to reopen due to health concerns. Some, like Sweet Tomatoes, shut down permanently. The decline of buffets was evident even prior to the pandemic, as several prominent chains had already closed. However, despite these challenges, certain buffet venues managed to survive, reflecting the enduring popularity of buffet dining, particularly within hotel brunches and ethnic restaurants in South Florida.
Even before the pandemic, buffets started dwindling. No more Sweden House in Aventura or Hometown Buffet in Davie and Hallandale Beach or Jumbo Buffet in North Miami Beach.
But some buffet restaurants recovered. Restaurant diners have loved buffets through the years. They have been a staple at hotel brunches and Chinese and Indian restaurants.
